A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a white and gold tent charged with two red crosses, one on either side, the dexter flap rolled and held open by a gold sea lion detailed black; all enclosed at bottom by a maroon scroll doubled and inscribed "SUSTAIN THE STRENGTH" in gold.

Maroon and white are the colors traditionally associated with Army medical units.  The red crosses denote medicine, compassion and zeal.  The open tent suggests the role of a field hospital in wartime.  The sea lion represents the unit's participation in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II and alludes to strength and courage.  The motto underscores the vital role and mission of a medical combat service support unit.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 20 December 1989.
